I noticed that winter break has been changed. Why did winter break change? This year winter break begins Monday, 12/25/17 running through Friday, January 5th. I don't think the district realizes that the majority of parenting plans their students have read.... "the first half of the child's vacation will be with be with Parent A beginning last day of school and ending Christmas at Noon. Parent B will have Christmas at noon until the day before school begins in January." This leaves one parent with no time with their children. Unfortunately, we have a high population of children who are being torn from one parent due to these legal agreements. It would be great if parents would never divorce and parents could work together for the benefit of the child but in today's divorced and blended families it's very difficult. I just spent $2000 to get my parenting plan aligned with my husbands so our blended family can be together and bam... I look and the district has completely changed the vacation time frame. I am looking an entire winter vacation without my children.
Can you point to the specific challenges or problems that have resulted in the need to increase early release days this year from the previous year's total of 9 to 12? Is next year's scheduled total of 12 concrete, or can parents and guardians expect another increase in these days and the burdens that they present if said challenges persist?
Addendum to a previous question- perhaps I wasn't clear: why have we gone from 9 early release days to 12? This does not, as you say, coincide with the removal of late start days, as the 9 early release day calendar took place after the elimination of late start days. What challenges or necessities led to the adoption of three(3) extra early release days, from the previous year's total of twelve (12). By my math, that's a net loss of hours, not, in fact, a gain of any sort. I am not interested in what the bare minimum requirement per state law may be, just in the motivation behind this change.
Also, my second question went unanswered as well. Is this change permanent, or is the calendar likely to include more early release days in the future?
Why is the Winter Break schedule so ridiculous this year? Who does it benefit to have a week in January after the holidays? This crazy schedule makes holiday travel very difficult and lessens time spent with family. There is no need to have an additional week in January once all holiday festivities are over, family has all left town, and parents have to return to work. Please do NOT do this again!! Would so much rather have time BEFORE the holidays to spend with family and enjoying the holiday season and go back to school after New Years Day rather than having children home for a ridiculous week in January when they will be sitting at home all day. PLEASE do not do this again next year!!
