Kinder Connect is an event hosted at Adams several times a year. The kindergarten teachers work together to design a short evening event that brings students and families together for a social and/or academic purpose. Past events have included a kindergarten social (students played at centers while adults mingled and asked questions of the teachers) and an adult/child gingerbread decorating activity. There is another one coming up soon that Adams' K team is busy planning for.
If you have further questions, please contact Adams Elementary directly at 509.354.2000.
Children who turn 5 between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1 may be conditionally enrolled in kindergarten for up to 30 days after a successful prescreen assessment. Contact Student Support Services at 354-7393 with additional questions or to schedule a prescreen prior to the start of school. Hope this helps!
State law doesn’t require students to start school until age 8. You can find more information about attendance requirements here.
In Spokane Public Schools, we would start a student in whatever grade level is age appropriate upon registration. Parents may request consideration for an earlier grade level. For example: requesting an 8-year-old start in first grade instead of second grade, or second grade instead of third grade, depending age and previous experience.
In our school district, Spokane Public Schools, kindergarten is on the same schedule as the other elementary grades -- 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. You can learn more about what kindergarten looks like in SPS by watching this video. Be sure to check the links on the left of that page for a kindergarten FAQ and a run-down of types of things that happen during the kindergarten school day. Thanks for your question!
